Burren Artist Residency... July

this coming july, i will be spending the month at the burren college of art on the west coast of ireland as an artist in residence. with the few rays of sunshine we have been getting in belgium the last two days, it is reminding me that spring is somewhere around the corner. the desire to hibernate will eventually wan, and i will have what i have been looking for the past months.... time.

i have been working slowly and steadily on a few new drawings that i have yet to post. the sun has been hiding, and the best photos are the ones i seem to get from dragging my easel out into the garden on sunny days. so, the next remotely sunny day, i will snap some photos of my new work to post.

i hope that 2011 will bring more time. the good news for 2011 is that i will be doing an artist residency during the month of july at the burren college of art in ireland. i am looking forward to having a concentrated amount of time to think about nothing but my artwork. it is the light at the end of my tunnel for the moment.

for 2011 i am going to begin posting more often, whether it is thoughts, photos of things that inspire or interest me, or artwork.

i am currently working on an installation with artist Paola Romero in Madrid, Spain at gallery Espacio F (calle fuencarral). for the past two years we have been keeping dream diaries. on the walls of the exhibition space, we are writing out our dreams left to right (writing forwards), then right to left (writing backwards), following the same pattern as the ancient Greeks, in their writing and in the way they plowed their fields. we will write out the dreams and then erase pieces, write and erase parts... something similar to the effect of time on memories.

despite all my recent talk about my return to oil painting, i have not stopped drawing. i decided to add some collage elements to the drawings, giving myself a spring board to work from and react to. i have really been enjoying the narratives that have surfaced in these pieces.
